The World Famous Masai Mara is an Award Winning National Reserve in the heart of Kenya, famed for its abundance of wildlife and rich culture.

No trip to Kenya is complete without a visit to the Masai Mara.  It is perhaps one of the most well known places in the world associated with the word 'Safari!'

The Masai Mara is a National Reserve as the Masai people live alongside the wildlife and are permitted to graze their livestock within the reserve.  An unforgettable sight is the Masai dressed in their red 'shuka' or blanket, trailing behind huge herds of cattle, the dust lingering in the air as they turn and head off into the sunset.

The Masai Mara is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating destinations in the world, endless grass plains teeming with wildlife, encircled by towering mountains and rock kopjes all make for some very exciting game drives.  This park is adjoined in the south to the Serengeti in neighbouring Tanzania and together they make up part of a very diverse ecosystem.

Be sure to visit the Masai Mara between July and September for the annual wildebeest migration.  Every year these ungainly beasts cross from the Serengeti into the Mara in search of luscious grass after the rains and back again.

They congregate together with hundreds of thousands of zebras and move in enormous groups across the savannah.  There is a point in which they have to cross the river, passing through a narrow gap in the bank they splash down into the water and try to make their way across to the other side.  Huge crocodiles are laying in wait for these crossings easily picking out the young or weak and wrestling them below the water.

In the early morning you will see the skyline scattered with giant hot air balloons as people enjoy a sunrise excursion over the park before floating down to enjoy a champagne breakfast in heart of the reserve.

As you leave your lodgings in the pitch dark starlit sky and make your way to the meeting point, a hive of activity awaits, the baskets and balloons are placed on the ground with the giant burner slowly inflating the gigantic balloon.  As soon as the balloon is inflated enough the basket will gently start to lift off the ground.  Once everyone has climbed aboard, the balloon takes off just as the sun rises over the Masai Mara.

The spectacle from up in the balloon is breathtaking as you look down over huge herds of animals below, unperturbed by the silent object floating past.

During the flight the burner tops up the hot air in the balloon and you continue to glide along, the trees and bushes below.  Slowly after an hour the balloon comes into land, gently brushing the tops of the grass until it comes to rest and you disembark.

You are greeted with a glass of champagne to celebrate the flight.  Set out on huge tables in the heart of the savannah is a feast for breakfast; everyone bubbles with excitement and tucks into a hearty breakfast in perhaps one of the most enchanting surrounds in the world.

To travel by hot air balloon is such a wonderful experience and see the world from a different perspective. Travel to this exotic and enchanting location with Safari Joe for a holiday of a life time! www.safari-joe.com
